Efficient and sustainable packaging solutions

What is thermoforming?

Our thermoforming film is designed for thermoformed packaging with barrier properties, ideal for fresh and processed food packaging.

The film guarantees excellent formability, strong welded seals and optimal protection against oxygen, moisture and contamination - perfectly suited for both vacuum and MAP applications.

Benefits of thermoforming

Excellent barrier properties

Protects against oxygen, moisture and external effects - increases shelf life.

Optimal formability

Fits perfectly around complex shapes and product contours.

Strong and reliable welded seals

Secure sealing guaranteed, ideal for vacuum and MAP.

Efficient processing

High processing speed and stable film quality for automated lines.

More about thermoforming packaging

Our multilayer co-extruded films (35mµ - 200mµ) are composed of PET, PP and PE structures with medium or high barrier properties such as mono APET, R-PET, G-PET, APET/PE, APET/PE-EVOH-PE, PP-EVOH-PP and PP-EVOH-PE.

Our bottom film is renowned for its excellent forming properties. All quality grades (60mµ - 350mµ) are available in both transparent and coloured versions.

The hard or rigid bottom film range includes mono APET, R-PET, G-PET, APET/PE, APET/PE-EVOH-PE, PP-EVOH-PP and PP-EVOH-PE structures. Available in different quality grades (150mµ - 1200mµ).

FAQ

When choosing a base film for thermoforming, it is best to determine whether you need a flexible or rigid film based on your product and the desired packaging properties. Flexible base film is thinner and highly malleable, making it ideal for complex or deep shapes and products where visibility and a good seal are important. Rigid base film is thicker and stiffer, offering strength and making it suitable for products that require protection and a longer shelf life. At Packas, we are happy to help you choose the most suitable base film for your packaging.

Thermoforming is ideal for fresh and prepared foods such as meat, charcuterie, fish, cheese, ready meals, salads, bakery products, patisserie and chocolate. Because the film fits the shape of the product perfectly, this technique offers optimal protection, shelf life and product presentation. It is also possible to seal multiple compartments. For the consumer, the food product remains clearly visible with high puncture resistance for bones, etc.

It is certainly possible to print on thermoformed packaging. We use transparent or coloured film for thermoformed packaging. We can print logos, product information and graphic elements in up to 10 different colours, including special effects to give the product a more attractive appearance.

Yes, Packas offers various sustainable and recyclable options for thermoforming and thermoformed packaging. To this end, we select special films from our D4R range that meet barrier requirements, shelf life, recyclability and PPWR standards.

Packas supplies high-quality thermoformed packaging in various materials, tailored to the product and shelf life. Both the top film and the bottom film are suitable for PET, PP and PE, with medium and high barrier properties. All films offer good sealing and peeling properties, can be printed in up to 10 colours and are recyclable. In addition, there is kraft bottom film for optimal product presentation and extended shelf life.

Both flexible (soft) and rigid (hard) options are available for the base film in thermoforming.
Flexible or soft base film (60–350 µm) offers excellent formability, good sealing and peeling properties, and can be finished with PA and/or EVOH barrier layers for protection against oxygen and moisture. This film is suitable for vacuum packaging, MAP, pasteurisation, sterilisation, cooking and deep-freezing, and is also available in recyclable mono-materials within the Design-4-Recycling (D4R) range.
Rigid or hard base film (150–1200 µm) includes structures such as mono APET, R-PET, G-PET, APET/PE, APET/PE-EVOH-PE, PP-EVOH-PP and PP-EVOH-PE. These are available in transparent or coloured versions, offer excellent sealing and peeling properties, are resealable if required, and can be printed in up to ten colours in high quality. Recyclable variants are also available here.

At Packas, we can produce the top film for thermoforming with various barrier properties, depending on the product and the desired shelf life. Options include PA and/or EVOH layers that offer protection against oxygen, moisture, aromas and light, thereby preserving freshness and quality for longer. The films combine high puncture resistance, transparency and, if required, an anti-fog layer, and are suitable for applications such as vacuum packaging, MAP, pasteurisation, sterilisation, cooking and deep-freezing. What’s more, the same barrier performance is possible in recyclable materials.

Thermoforming film is available in combination with polyethylene (PE), polypropylene (PP), polyester (PET) and polyamide (PA), with or without an EVOH barrier. The film fits perfectly around the product, ensuring a strong presentation. Thanks to its high barrier properties against oxygen, moisture and light, the shelf life is extended. The strong welds and high puncture resistance make the packaging suitable for vacuum, Modified Atmosphere Packaging (MAP), pasteurisation, sterilisation, cooking and deep-freezing. Thermoforming is possible with flexible or rigid films, including recyclable materials within the Design-4-Recycling (D4R) range. In addition, you can print on the transparent/coloured film in 10 colours.
